Wave transmission is the movement of a wave from one medium to no another
If two springs are connected on more stiff than the other and a wave is sent through the light spring into the heavier one. The speed of the wave is going to change rapidly and all the extra speed or energy is reflected back from the boundary as a trough. Instead of the energy being destroyed it is reflected back because energy cannot be destroyed. The transmitted energy continues as a normal wave. Below is an illustration depicting the transmission of a pulse moving from a less dense medium to a one that is denser. Notice that the reflected wave is inverted from the boundary, which would always be the case in a situation where a wave is moving from a less dense or less stiff material to a denser or stiffer material. Second, observe that the reflected wave has a smaller amplitude in comparison to the initial wave. Also the reflected wave travels faster that the transmitted wave. The transmitted wave will have smaller wavelengths and the reflected wave will have the same wavelength as the incident wave.
Now we attach two springs again one stiffer than the other and send the wave through the stiffer spring just like the first example there will be a partial transmission and partial reflection at the boundary. Below is an illustrations which projects the movement of a wave from a dense substance to one that is less dense. Notice that the wave reflected from the boundary is not inverted. Observe that the transmitted wave travels faster than the incident wave.in the less dense medium. The transmitted pulse in the less dense medium has a bigger wavelength than the reflected wave in the more dense medium.
